Role: Humanitarian Consultant

Essential training, expertise, and experience:

Working knowledge and experience in emergency health, nutrition, WASH, protection, education, and humanitarian cash are among the areas covered by the Ethiopia Crises to Resilience Programme.
Evidence of giving government agencies, foreign or domestic humanitarian organisations, and/or donors humanitarian analysis and guidance.
solid knowledge of Ethiopian humanitarian architecture and policies, as well as relevant experience working on humanitarian programmes in Ethiopia.
expertise in influencing laws.
Excellent inter-personal and team working skills, with an ability to work flexibly and adapt to emerging issues.
a demonstrated capacity for confident and clear verbal and written communication.

Desired background, expertise, and experience:

Although the FCDO assessment is competency-based rather than experience-based, the majority of successful candidates in the past have demonstrated the necessary competencies with at least five to ten years of relevant humanitarian experience.
expertise and experience dealing with protection issues and in environments prone to instability and conflict.
A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, but additional relevant experience will do in its place.

It will be expected of you in this role to:

Offer technical guidance to support FCDO’s humanitarian programming and policy.
Take the lead on several aspects of the Embassy’s flagship multi-sector programme, “Ethiopia Crisis to Resilience,” which includes emergency health, nutrition, WASH, protection, education, and humanitarian aid. You will give the programme a clear sense of direction, guarantee excellence in programme management, and make sure the programme is implemented with UN and NGO implementing partners in an effective manner.
Keep the embassy informed about the humanitarian sectors you oversee and participate in the development of humanitarian policy.
In coordination forums (including pertinent clusters), with the Ethiopian government (relevant ministries and the Ethiopia Disaster Risk Management Committee), and with important international partners, represent the United Kingdom. It ought to be possible for you to keep up a strong network inside the Ethiopian humanitarian community.
As needed, offer cross-cutting analysis and guidance to RHT and the larger embassy in the areas you oversee.
Make sure that all FCDO humanitarian programme and policy work takes protection risks and the needs of the most vulnerable civilians—such as women, children, people with disabilities, and internally displaced people—into account.
Make frequent field visits (at least 20 days annually) to observe FCDO programmes and provide input for the formulation of policies and situation assessments.
Pay: USD 25,465 to USD 38,139 annually, subject to taxes
