AAU Health Science College Opening 2024
Reorganized from separate health institutions under one roof, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Addis Ababa University (AAU) is a professional health sciences college founded in 2009–2010.
Four schools and one teaching hospital make up the CHS. The School of Medicine (SoM), School of Pharmacy (SoP), School of Public Health (SPH), and School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) are the four institutions. Professional training in nursing, midwifery, and medical laboratory technology is provided by the SAHS.
To maximize human resource utilization through collaborative planning for teaching common courses and research, to standardize curricula across disciplines, to set standards and quality checks for the teaching-learning process, to maximize opportunities for collaborative research and publication, to maximize shared use of facilities for effectiveness and efficiency in teaching-learning, research, and services, and to create opportunities to address community health needs in an integrated manner as a health team, the CHS was established.
First position: IT officer
Experience and qualifications
• A master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related discipline.
• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field and at least two years of equivalent work experience
Proficiencies and individual attributes
• Devoted to realizing the objectives of the project.
• Capable of carrying out the project both independently and as a member of a team.
• The capacity and willingness to collaborate with individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds while upholding objectivity and impartiality in a team environment.
• Previous experience as an IT professional.
• English proficiency, both written and spoken.
• Outstanding communication skills in both English and the local tongue, as well as expertise in conveying important information in reports and presentations.
• Sufficient hardware, software, and programming knowledge and abilities.
• Proficiency in database administration, data management, and all Microsoft Office applications.
•Experience working with Addis Ababa University in the past or present is advantageous.
Position 2: Officer of Accounts
Essential Education and Experiences
• A BA or MA from an accredited university in accounting or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to manage large-scale and/or multiple projects in accounting, ideally in university settings in Ethiopia.
• A minimum of five years experience as an accountant for a company managing several large-scale projects.
• Modesty and a track record of managing sensitive and private data.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other computer programs.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
Individual characteristics
Effectively managed; meticulous; able to establish a comfortable working environment.
• Accomplishes tasks in challenging circumstances and with minimal resources.
Officer of Public Relations and Communications, Position 3
Experience and qualifications
• A master’s degree in public relations, public health promotion, health communication, or a related field, or an advanced public health degree (MPH).
• A minimum of two years of comparable work experience
Proficiencies and individual attributes
• Devoted to realizing the objectives of the project.
• Capable of carrying out the project both independently and as a member of a team.
• The capacity and willingness to collaborate with individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds while upholding objectivity and impartiality in a team environment.
• Previous experience in the role of communication officer.
• Prior experience participating in international cooperative research projects or research consortiums.
• Practical understanding of how the Ethiopian health system and general health system operate.
• English proficiency, both written and spoken.
• Proficient in conveying important information in reports and presentations, both in local languages and in English.
• Wide-ranging experience in training personnel on operational issues about research projects.
• Best experience preside over scientific and programmatic meetings and recording the proceedings.
• Skilled in all Microsoft Office programs.
• It is advantageous to have previous or current experience working with Addis Ababa University.
Post 4: Project Administrator for AFCRN
Experience and qualifications: • Advanced degree in public health (PhD with strong management experience, ideally in non-communicable disease research projects, or MPH with at least five years of experience).
Proficiencies and individual attributes:
• Devoted to realizing the objectives of the project.
• Capable of carrying out the project both independently and as a member of a team.
• The capacity and willingness to collaborate with individuals from various cultural and religious backgrounds while upholding objectivity and impartiality in a team environment.
• Prior experience participating in international cooperative research projects or research consortiums.
• Project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation experience.
• A great deal of expertise in writing operational and scientific reports, as well as creating proposals for scientific research.
• Awareness of the main obstacles to the health system and diseases in the fight against non-communicable diseases.
• Practical understanding of how the Ethiopian health system and general health system operate.
• Demonstrated aptitude for analysis and strategic thinking.
• English proficiency, both written and spoken.
• Proficient in conveying important information in reports and presentations, both in local languages and in English.
• Wide-ranging experience in training personnel on operational issues about research projects.
• Best experience preside over scientific and programmatic meetings and recording the proceedings.
• Expertise in utilizing statistical software packages for quantitative data analysis, such as STATA, SPSS, and EpiData; familiarity with software for qualitative data analysis, like Atlas. ti, is advantageous.
• Skilled in all Microsoft Office programs.
• It is preferred if you have previous or current experience working with Addis Ababa University.
Fifth Position: Manager of Programmes
Experience and qualifications
• An advanced degree in public health (preferably a PhD with a strong background in managing research projects on non-communicable diseases, or an MPH with at least five years of experience).
