POSITION SUMMARY: In order to support the MOH, RHBs, and Health Facilities in the design and implementation of IPC and QI programs at each level of the health system, ICAP at Columbia University in Ethiopia is hiring a Central Advisor for infection prevention and control (IPC) and quality improvement (QI) (henceforth referred to as the Advisor). In addition to assisting in the planning and execution of IPC and QI related training for HCWs, he or she will be primarily in charge of providing level-specific effective technical assistance to IPC champion and community of practice site staff, as well as when needed at other health facilities.

Additionally, by proactively offering pertinent TA, the incumbent will support the implementation and assessment of cutting-edge IPC and QI methodologies as well as patient care models to enhance access to integrated, patient-centered, safe health care and improve treatment outcomes.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Offer technical leadership and IPC/QI training and capacity building, first concentrating on safeguarding patients, healthcare providers, and communities against COVID-19.
  • Manage and guarantee the efficient execution and synchronization of needs assessments, online and in-person training and development initiatives, activities related to quality improvement (QI), and the sharing of best practices and knowledge.
  • Ensure that there is efficient coordination and communication between project partners, ICAP country offices, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and record the advancement of initiatives’ goals and objectives by keeping an eye on the actions of IPC Champion sites, East African IPC community of practice sites, and QI project sites.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and assist in arranging the yearly work planning procedures.
  • Work closely with the counterparts of the RHBs to guarantee that participating hospitals and IPC/QI Focal points receive timely, relevant, and high-quality technical assistance.
  • Promote the ongoing use of data to monitor program quality, outputs, and outcomes in collaboration with ICAP’s Strategic Information unit.
  • Compile and distribute reports and guidelines on IPC/QI best practices and methodologies for broader national replication and use. Synthesize effective findings.
  • Verify that all project write-ups and donor reports, including but not limited to program briefs and success stories, are data-driven and tell a compelling story.
    • A degree in BSc with an MPH and at least ten years of experience, or an MD with an MPH and five years of experience
    • It is necessary to have prior experience with infection prevention and control (IPC) programs and initiatives.
    • Prior knowledge of QI projects and programs is necessary.
    • Three years of clinical experience in a hospital environment or the implementation of a pertinent IPC/QI project in a public health setting are the minimal requirements.
    Strong communication and facilitation abilities, especially the capacity to organize stakeholders, are necessary. Proficiency with online training, remote learning, and case-based teaching is highly encouraged. Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement.
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel proficiency is necessary; formal quality improvement knowledge would be advantageous.
